The recently restored Marcus Whitman Hotel opened to much fanfare in 1928. The interior still reflects an aura of elegance and sophistication. Through the years, numerous dignitaries and celebrities have visited, including President Eisenhower, Vice-President Lyndon B. Johnson, Louis Armstrong and Shirley Temple.

The Whitman was the Grand Prize winner in the 2003 Walla Walla 20/20 Architectural Awards.


Much to our amusement, we discovered that many of the local artists possess a great sense of humor ... as expressed through their sculptures displayed prominently on the downtown sidewalks.


Pastime Cafe: An Italian restaurant, located on the east side of downtown, in operation since 1925. Stupid us ...we forgot to eat here!
