Welcome!Gypsy TourWashingtonRoslyn

Sherry in front of The Brick ... still pondering the confusing map.

The real Brick Tavern is the oldest licensed tavern in Washington. In the fictitious Cicely, the red Coca Cola sign is covered by another sign advertising Spaghetti Feeds. For interior shots a studio set was used instead of the tavern.

Ruth Anne's General Store (now Central Sundries) has a roped off section with shelves stocked as exactly as they were in the show. Joel Fleishman’s Office (now Cicely Gifts) still contains the movable walls that were necessary for the cameras to move between the reception and exam areas. Amazingly, Marilyn Whirlwind’s desk is there. The store sells the complete line of Northern Exposure memorabilia.

Roslyn's other claim to fame is that it has the largest concentration of cemeteries in the state. Due to the fact that the mining industry attracted a wide mix of European immigrants such as Slavs, Italians, Austrians, Croatians, Germans Scots, Swedes, Hungarians, and Druids, twenty-seven separate cemeteries were required to accommodate each ethnic, religious and fraternal group.

Located in a residential neighborhood, on the edge of town, is the eighty year old Careks's Meat Market. This tiny unassuming market is famous for its smoked meats … and we can report that it lives up to its reputation. After tasting numerous samples, we purchased beef jerky in quantities humanly impossible for two people to eat. This jerky bears no resemblance to the shoe leather found on the counters in 7-11 stores, but instead is made from thick slices of top sirloin.

On the drive back to Walla Walla we took a short detour on Highway 10. This scenic road parallels the main highway and takes you through the heart of the beautiful Yakima River Canyon.
