Welcome!Gypsy TourWashingtonAnacortes

One afternoon we drove up the steep and winding road to the top of the 1,270-foot Mt. Erie … the tallest "mountain" on Fidalgo Island. Again just five miles from downtown, we were transported to acres of forested land and sweeping panoramas of the Puget Sound. While admiring the views, a young bald eagle soared above … many eagles call Anacortes home. Click on the photo for a larger view ... we were struck by the irony of an island on an island.

Just blocks from downtown, is one of the best places for beautiful views … Cap Sante Park. From this east side park we drove to the top of Cap Sante, the rocky promontory that guards the town like a little Gibraltar. We scrambled up boulders for impressive low-elevation viewpoint of the Cascades and watched the boats passing through the Guemes Channel.

You can view panoramas from Mt. Erie and Cape Sante at our Panorama Gallery.

One final photo from Anacortes. Danny has a weakness for Craftsman bungalows ... and dreams of living in one when we give up life on the road.
