Yes, it is a bit spooky ... but much nicer than the Bates Motel. The McMenamin brothers are Oregon icons. They restore and adapt historic properties around the state to brew pubs. The brothers recently refurbished one of McMinnville’s oldest hotels. It’s a wonderful old four story building that is now a brew pub and bed and breakfast. In the lobby there is a display with newspaper articles and photos of a UFO observed in the area in the 1950s. The city celebrates the UFO sighting with a festival every May with scientists skeptics and, as described by the hotel receptionist, "very colorful UFO believers". After viewing the historic photographs and taking the antique elevator up to the roof top lounge we sampled their creamy and delicious Hammerhead ale (This is now Sherry’s favorite beer.)
Next to the RV Park ... Olde Stone Village ... was the Evergreen Aviation Museum home of the "Spruce Goose" Hughes flying boat. Danny enjoyed touring the facility and felt it lived up to its stated purpose "to inspire and educate, to promote and preserve aviation history…"
