The striking blue tile and frosted glass touches at the entrance of Eugene’s Post Office provide a stylish touch to this 1939 Art Deco building. Inside there is an interesting WPA mural.
Armitage County Park is one of the largest parks in Eugene. It hugs the banks of the Willamette River and is filled with giant trees. This is a great place to enjoy a picnic.
The Owens Memorial Rose garden contains the country's oldest and largest Black Tartarian cherry tree. The tree is a survivor of an old orchard planted in 1860 near the Willamette River. At this ripe old age, the tree's enormous limbs are supported by steel columns and cables.
Danny’s mother appreciated this photo of St. Mary’s Catholic Church (1927) where she and Danny’s father were married during WW II.
Just north of Eugene is Coburg, a small community that’s designated as a National Historic area and an American tree city. We became overwhelmed by the enormous trees lining the streets … huge 160 year old sugar maples with 100 foot canopies.
In the middle of Coburg is a charming and very civilized espresso bar. While perusing the New York Times and sipping an Americano, it was hard to imagine that the structure once doubled as the Pony Express and stagecoach stop.
