Bridge Street follows the same route as the Santa Fe Trail ... crossing the Gallinas River and heading west to the Plaza. Coronado, the Spanish explorer crossed the Gallinas in 1541.
We ate lunch at Estella’s … a funky little restaurant rich in character and tradition. After drizzling honey over our sopapillas we understand why it was jammed with locals. Estella’s is housed in the 1884 Anicito Baca building.
Across the street from Estella's we spotted the E. Romero Hose and Fire Company. The walking tour map stated that in 1913 the building contained "2 horses owned by members, 25 volunteers, 1 paid man, 1500' - 2 1/2" cotton hose, 130' of ladder, 2 extinguishers."
Danny especially liked the 1885 Stern and Nahm building … a typical commercial building that housed a dry goods firm. Because it was constructed of inexpensive stone and mortar, it is crumbling. The volunteer at the Las Vegas Preservation Organization told us that this building most likely can’t be saved.
While strolling around the Plaza we spotted this '54 Chevy pickup. Danny began to swoon as he remembered his restored '55 First Series from so many years ago. (Page 2 of 2)
