The charming University House (1930), with its arched courtyard entrance and vine covered flagstone porch, beckoned us to take a closer look. For almost eight decades University House has been the President's Residence. It is also used to host official UNM functions.

The University grounds, with its duck pond and waterfall is peaceful … a virtual green oasis full of people jogging, doing yoga and feeding the ducks. The Campus Arboretum extends throughout the University’s grounds and offers an outstanding botanical experience showcasing hundreds of labeled plants.

Sharing the pond along with the ducks and orange carp were dozens of turtles.

Danny enjoyed watching the fish and turtles swimming in the pond and eventually became mesmerized by this mallard's iridescent head.

Although the duck pond is a great place to just hang out, we found this unique sculpture to be rather disturbing ... in a fun way.

UNM has the most sinister and vicious looking school mascot we have encountered. The Lobo was selected in 1920 because "The Lobo is respected for his cunning, feared for his prowess and is the leader of the pack."

Images of the Lobo are found throughout the UNM campus. We found this one guarding the University grounds on top of a knoll overlooking Historic Route 66.
