Would you have invested with this group? Though most people associate computer giant Microsoft with Seattle, the company was actually launched in Albuquerque in 1975. The original Microsoft staff posed for this photo on December 7, l978 before the company moved its offices from Albuquerque to Washington. Microsoft co-founders Bill Gates and Paul Allen are the two guys in the bottom row.
Microsoft cofounder Paul Allen placed a plaque at the building that housed the original Microsoft headquarters. Allen had originally planned to establish a museum here, but the plans were scraped. Click here to read.
As Danny took a photo of the nondescript circa 1950s building, he joked that he was probably standing on Bill Gates parking spot.
The name of this sculpture is Cruising San Mateo I … popularly known around town as "Chevy on a Stick." When erected some citizens objected to the cost, others to the aesthetics … overtime it has become a treasured Albuquerque landmark.
While straining our necks looking up, we almost missed the Redflower False Yucca (Hesperaloe parviflora) in bloom at the base of the sculpture. You can click here for a larger look.
We have seen shoe trees before but not one constructed exclusively of high heels … each shoe has been carefully nailed in place. This high heel extravaganza is located in what appeared to be a somewhat normal neighborhood.
We stumbled upon Golden Crown Panaderia, a small neighborhood bakery. Famous for its green chili cheese bread and bread sculptures, its owner, Pratt Morales, has been featured on numerous TV shows including the Food Network.
Morales is quite a character and eagerly espoused his baking philosophy with Sherry. He told us that it was in the works for him to appear on the Jay Leno Show to present Jay with his very own life size bread portrait. (Page 2 of 2)
