Welcome!Gypsy TourMontanaGlacier N.P.

We stopped to admire the impressive swath of rippling whitewater and aquamarine pools at McDonald Falls.

After hearing that The Going-to-the-Sun Road was a crumbling, twisty, narrow, nail biting, white knuckle, don’t-look-down kind of road, we carefully made preparations for our drive on what is touted as America’s (if not the world’s) most celebrated stretch of asphalt. Because it is such a narrow road, there is a vehicle size restriction of 20' by 8' (this includes bumpers and mirrors). After carefully measuring our truck we figured our 20' 10" by 8' 3" dimensions were close enough. If we needed the extra room on a narrow pass, we could always hold our breath and suck in our stomachs.

This engineering feat of the 1930s lives up to its reputation. It is estimated that building this road today would cost close to 12 million dollars per mile. Stopping at the many pull offs gave us a chance to enjoy the multitude of amazing vistas.

We were unable to stop, so Sherry snapped a quick picture of the incredible repair work at the photogenic Three Arched Bridge.

This is probably the largest pullout available on the way up to Logan Pass. From here we could see Bird Woman Falls in the distant morning shadows.
