At the Interstate Park Campground we picnicked along the banks of the St. Croix River and became mesmerized by the trumpeter swans that make the St. Croix their year round home.
Interstate Park straddles both Minnesota and Wisconsin and preserves the world's largest concentration of glacial potholes. At the visitor center our eyes glazed over as we stood reading the exhibits explaining the some rather complicated geology … we finally said "enough!" ... and just hit the trail leading to the potholes.
The Glacial Gardens trail contains a maze of potholes with names like Bake Oven, Fat Mans Squeeze and Devil’s Parlor. One called Bottomless Pit is the deepest in the world.
Glacial Gardens trail also provides great views. Danny climbed up Angels Rock to photograph this view of the St. Croix River. (Page 2 of 2)
