Another favorite is the Federated Insurance Company Building. Built in 1923 it is one of the latest examples of Prairie School architecture built in the Midwest. Click here to see close up of the terra-cotta ornamentation surrounding the entrance.
Built in the late 1890’s, the Steele County Courthouse features an impressive four sided clock tower.
Danny spotted this remarkable fire hydrant across the street from the courthouse.
Owatonna was once the site of Minnesota’s only state run orphanage. Although the city now owns the property, the unique history of this place is maintained through the tender stories of more than 10,000 children who resided here from 1886 to 1940.
Originally the main building for the state orphanage, this massive Romanesque building now serves as the city council chambers.
The 1887 Union Depot was moved from its original location in 1977 and is currently used as a conference site by a local auto parts manufacturer. (Page 3 of 3)
