Pat's opened in 1947 and is still rolling along. Old US Highway 60 was the main thoroughfare through Mesa during the Sixties. It was a wide boulevard lined with motels offering the comfort of swimming pools … nirvana for sweltering tourists. Today only a handful of these classic motels with their old-styled signs still survive … most have been replaced by mega mobile home parks.
At the landmark Starlite Motel the diving lady climbs to her platform every evening at sundown and executes one perfect plunge after another. Danny put this photo together from 3 different exposures to show the animation.
Circle RB Guest Lodge still retains a charm that draws in a crowd. Too bad it's right next door to a mortuary. (Page 2 of 2)
